Do I need to change bios setting after installing new ram?

I had 4gb ram installed in my desktop now i bought 2 slots of 8 gb each making a total of 16gb.

do i need to change any setting for it to work

my nvidia graphic card system information says i have 4gb total memory installed

but under computer properties it shows 16gb

Is it possible that my system is using only 2gb out of that 4gb showed by my graphic card and do i need to change any setting to make 4gb-16gb

If yes then please mention the steps.

Adding more than 4 GB of System RAM to any computer that ONLY runs a 32-bit version of Windows, won't make any difference, period.

    Simple fix:

You must replace your current 32-bit version of Windows (7 or 8?) with a 64-bit version of Windows. And there's no Upgrade option, so you must pay for a full retail, or OEM, version of Windows 64-bit, according to Microsoft.

And, if you can't find the nearly obsolete Windows 7 X64 version, Windows 8 X64, may be your only other choice.

You don't need to change anything in the bios for it to work, the system reads it automatically. Some motherboards limit the amount of ram, and some versions of Windows limit the amount of ram you can use.

If you're using Windows, I recommend a version that is 64-bit professional if you want to use a lot of ram.
