So what would you have done about Lizzie in Walking Dead? *spoilers*?
So the latest episode of Walking Dead had Lizzie, who clearly had some mental issues, kill Mica and even threatened Lil '***-kicker' to show Carol n (forgot his name) the walkers were 'friends'.
Would you have offed Lizzie too knowing she's a threat and liability to their survival?
What about before, given there were surefire signs of her mental health yet no one approached the issue as necessary, would you have offed her before she had the chance to do harm, or let her be 'bitten' by the walker so she can still get what she 'wanted' so to speak and not have her as a liability anymore?
@Neil- Nice synopsis, the only issue I'd see in the plans on keeping Lizzie is that she'd have to be CLOSELY monitored. They'd have to sleep sometime, and Lizzie's unstable behind might drag more of the dead near, or kill the baby while they were asleep, or find some way to 'show' them the zombies aren't 'bad'.
You can take away her weapons but there's no telling in the heat of the moment if she'd eventually side with her unstable side and make everyone zombies. There's no time for mental therapy or rehabilitation in that instance, and thus keeping her alive to help may prove useful, but her continued instability would eventually contribute to their demise.
But then again it's like; well what else COULD you do without killing her. So I get your point.

No, first of all, Carol turned these kids into Child-Soldiers(which was how this problems started to begin with, it teaches them violence, without the ability to reason, their frontal-lobes simply aren't ready, it's why real-life child soldiers are unbalanced, and dangerous too, they become unstable killing-machines). Originally both girls were scared, and ready to flee at all moments, which is a good instinct to keep intact.
Then she pushed them together, which is another bad idea with kids in a 'war-zone'.(it's what people do though, so as frustrated as I am, TWD is fantastic at giving a realistic character-development, good, bad, and ugly)
Smart solution would be to have 1 adult, 1 kid, and to lead that kid, always emphasizing YOU are the adult, and the kid simply needs to stay close, and FOLLOW your lead. That's how you're most successful in 'war-zone' situations. No responsibility, just an emphasized notion they need to listen, and follow your lead.
Even after Lizzie killed Mica, you can't kill her, because where Humans are dropping like flies, you need ALL(it's something we saw in settlers, and early sailors, they didn't just kill people, if they didn't absolutely have to, not even the dysfunctional, or crazy, because you need all the bodies available). And Lizzie is simply too small to 'need' to be killed.
After Lizzie killed Mica, you pretty much do the smart thing still, you take away her weapons, and instruct her to follow you, to stay close.
In a danger-zone you either play to win(go for ALL GOOD), or you're lost, Carol warped these girls into killing machines, and then disposed of them when it blew-up in her face(which is her M.O. by now, disposing of humans she views as a threat), that's gonna lead to self-destruction.
It does highlight how good Rick's approach was when Carl was getting out of control, by going FARMER he restored a balance, and that saved Carl.
Also, it's a very realistic way to describe Carol who went from abused, to empowered, to fight-hungry, and becoming abusive herself, while hoping it 'helps' the kids(which happens to people with a history of violence), next stop is self-destruction though, because both Lizzie, and Mica would've had a far better chance if they never met Carol, and Carol should start to acknowledge that soon.

If you lived in that kind of environment, the old rules are gone. It is survival of the fittest. You teach your kids to survive, hunt, gather, and kill to save themselves. Carol taught the kids what they needed to know in case the adults died and they had no one to care for them. They would by necessity at times have to be alone and they needed the skills to keep themselves alive.
As for killing Lizzie there was no other option. You couldn't take her to counseling. There is no counseling. She's messed up and there is no place for coddling a person like that. You need everyone to have everyone else's back. You could never trust her again. She could never be left unattended or given a weapon and someone would always have to be awake to make sure she didn't try killing them.
The old days of taking care of the mentally unbalanced were gone and there is no option if you want to live. Lizzie had to go.

I would have done the same thing Carol did. There is really nothing you can do when some or even a child has gone crazy like that. A zombie would have gotten to her sooner or later. Yes it is sad tho.
I am just surprise Lizzie didn't kill the baby also.
