Hi! This configuration is enough for home use. If you want to play new games like Need for Speed, Gta, Fifa etc. you need to purchase with graphic card. If you use your laptop just for home use, internet browsing etc, you no need a graphic card.

For general home use any i5 is going to be more than enough. If you want to edit videos or play games than you would benefit from something with more ram and discrete graphics.

Intel HD4000 graphics is pretty good and I understand that HD4400 (the update in newer processors) will run a lot of stuff. For more guidance on games (if that is relevant to you) have a look at http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-400... which will show which graphics cards perform well.

I think the 4200U is a low power part which will mean that it should run cool.

If you want something that will stand a good chance of lasting 3-4 years though (and don't want top end gaming performance) have a look at Lenovo Thinkpads as they are often physically more robust than other manufacturer's machines. (My grandmother is still using my old Thinkpad which was second hand when I got it 6 years ago and is still going strong (though I did have to spend £4 replacing the fan this time last year).

The computer is good for typical, non-gaming, use. No laptop under $1000 will be suitable for 3-4 years worth of gaming. Even gaming laptops in the $1000-$1200 range start to lose their "edge" after about 2 years.

If you want to buy a system that will be able to stay cutting edge for 3-4 years, you'll need to buy a desktop system (and buy individual components as needed to stay current).
