What is wrong with my toenail?

When I was in 7th or 8th grade, I broke my big toe on my right foot. The break also damaged the follicle from which the nail grows, and my doctor wasn't sure if it would grow back or not. Fortunately, the nail did grown back and cotinues to grow normally, but it has lots of vertical grooves and occasionally cracks as opposed to being smooth like the rest of my toenails. It also seems to have a faint yellowish tint to it. It looks really gross and makes it seem like I don't take care of my feet. Is their any specific name or medical term for something like this? Also, could it be fixed somehow? If not, does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it look less gross? (I don't wear nail polish.)

Thanks in advance.

It's called beau's lines. I have one of my middle finger and I'm healthy and fine but there are definitely more than enough websites if you'd like to do some self diagnosing.
