help locatating a US soldier?

Okay So I have been "chatting" to this person online who I met through an online military dating site. He says he is a soldier in the US army and has told me where he is posted at the moment ,and he has told me where he lives when he is not on base. Because I have been scammed before I was wondering if there was anyway that I could track down if he really is a soldier on the internet. I have done a google search on him and nothing of any relevance comes up. I thought about ringing the Base where he says he is but I live in Australia and it is a long distance call and I wouldn't know what to say.

Please help

thanks

You know ... here is the bottom line: I understand how lonely one can get. I understand that a little internet romance can be a nice little spice in life. I encourage just about anyone to have a little harmless internet fun. YOu should do this with the guy you are chatting with. Live a little!

However, the moment that any sort of request for money pops up, then run away - or not. Just do not send any money. Have all the internet fun you want with whoever is one the other end of the computer line, just do not send any money.

There are NO reasons why a United States Servicemember would need any sort of funds from someone over the internet - except for shenanigans - legal, sort of illegal, or otherwise.

So - what I am saying is have a good time, be as romantic as you want, but do NOT send any money whatsoever.

If he's in the Army his email will be from @mail.mil or @us.army.mil

If he's a scammer he will be using a free Yahoo, Hotmail, a Gmail, etc address and try to tell you he can't use his .mil address for security reasons.

If he can email you he can Skype you as every base has computers with webcams for soldiers to Skype friends and family. If he tries to claim he can't Skype for security reasons or he doesn't have a cam, he's a scammer

Any real soldier would insist on seeing YOU on cam anyway to make sure you weren't a fake profile, especially since it's been reported that the Taliban have been targeting soldiers online with fake profiles of women to try and find their location

So if he won't Skype and doesn't have a .mil address, then he's fake. It's that simple

Most likely he is a young man in a Central African internet cafe, drinking strong coffee, smoking pungent cigarettes, and joking with his friends while he sends hundred of emails, Facebook posts, and Tweets to dozens of women he thinks might be stupid, lonely, and gullible enough to swallow his line of BS and send him money.

A big hint is if his email address does not end in ".mil." If he even HINTS about needing money fro you or sending you checks to cash so you can wire the funds back to him, he is a guaranteed, genuine "Nigerian romance" scammer.

Unfortunately, the odds that you are actually communicating with a real American military member are slightly less than zero.

Every email includes header information that includes the IP address, which gives you the exact physical location of the computer that sent the email.

If you have an an email (not a message on the dating site), then you can see exactly where he is.

Here is a free service to extract the info. Just follow the directions:

    http://www.ip2location.com/free/email-tracer

For example, when I did that with the email from the "Canadian Pharmacy", here's what I got back:

    IP Address 82.104.94.162

    Location ITALY, LAZIO, ROMA

    Latitude & Longitude 41.894740, 12.483900 (41°53'41"N 12°29'2"E)

    Connection TELECOM ITALIA S.P.A.

    Local Time 20 Mar, 2014 05:25 PM (UTC +01:00)

    Domain TELECOMITALIA.IT

    Net Speed (COMP) Company/T1

    IDD & Area Code (39) 006

    ZIP Code 00135

    Weather Station ROME (ITXX0067)

    Mobile Country Code (MCC) 222

    Mobile Network Code (MNC) 01

    Carrier Name TIM
