What do you think of hyphenated names?

I am absolutely in love with the name Llywelyn, but I think it would be adorable as a girl's name spelled as Lou-Ellen.

I'm not sure how I like the idea of hyphenated first names, but I still think the name is lovely. What are your thoughts on the name Lou-Ellen and hyphenated first names in general?

Hyphens seem weird in names. I've met women named Louellen and that is how I would spell it for a girl. I've always thought Llywelyn/Llywelyn sounded kind of feminine anyway and it definitely sounds like it would be spelled like Lou Ellen anywhere other than the original Welsh anyway. Welsh names are so hard to spell.

Louellen Elise is okay. I don't love either name but they are fine.

@Prama - maybe most English names (not all - Lloyd) don't start with double consonants but it is very common in Welsh names which Llewellyn is. Also Lydia is the original spelling as it is a place name.

I dislike hyphenated names. I don't see the point.

LouEllen or Lou Ellen are perfectly fine without a hyphen.

    Lou Ellen Elise is cute.

LIywelyn?? No. It looks like a bunch of letters throen together. Like some anagram-doesn't look like a name at all.

I much prefer Lou-Ellen where you can actually see the name.

But I honestly dont care for either names

    Lou-Ellen Elise: dont care for

I also really hate Lou being used for a girl. Its more of a guys nickname or name

    Try... Louise?

    Louise-Ellen?

Lou-Ellen is good name. Personally I am not supporting you to pin Hyphen with that

I'd go without the hyphen and just use the name Lou Ellen. Hyphens just complicate what should be a straight forward process.

Llywelyn???? For one how do you pronounce it and it looks like a chunk of letters!Remember-a name sticks for life! I detest hyphenated names because it contains of 2 names which will leave your daughter's friends confused. It also may lead to bullying incedences in the future.Lou Ellen? Not really, even without a hyphen-NO!!! Eliie sounds good.If you insist on one starting with 'L',then this list is yours:

    Lavender

    Lacy

    Leena

    Linda

    Lindy

    Lina

    Lily

    Lissy

    Libby

    Liberty

    Lidya

Remember, 'L' names cannot be followed by a consonant. The only exception is 'Lydia' which is a different spelling of 'Lidya'

    Hope this was useful

if your gonna be hyphenating names be sure to expect most people will get it wrong you will always be correcting them or you can just let it go and always see it wrong. I do like hyphenated names. I do like Lou-Ellen but I would drop the Elise.

I think it's trashy and chav. It's tacky and no one will ever take someone with a horrid name like that seriously. If you want to cripple your child before she's even born, go with it.

    Otherwise, find a new name

Source(s): @horridbabynames on Twitter. If you give your child a stupid name, I will make fun of it.

    I think you mean 'Llewellyn"?

    I don't mind Lou-Ellen, as it's a hyphenated name that's supposed to be hyphenated.

    :)
