Requiring aspirant presidential candidate(s) of a college diploma. Anyone opposes to a law like this?
I definitely agree with Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago on her wish that every aspirant presidential candidate in the Philippines should be a college graduate. For me not only that but have a master's degree or a PhD. holder. because any idiot can aspire to become a president of the republic. Right now there is no law that pertain to require such qualification. You might say it is not the diploma that is in question but the character of the person, true but that would be another story. What is your opinion?

I think that a person's professional accomplishments should hold more weight than, say, a PhD. Here in the USA, most people with PhD's are known as "career students" and almost always stay in academia whether it be teaching or research.
I'm an auditor for a large multinational company, and a prospective employee with a PhD in accounting or finance would not necessarily prove to have any more value than someone with a bachelors, given that they both have a CPA. The mentality seems to be a bit different in the Philippines, where a PhD seems to be viewed as "just better" than a bachelors.
But regardless, candidates should have some sort of degree/experience in the areas of finance/economics/law so that they can effectively lead a government.

This is a good idea on paper but the lady solon failed to appreciate that this is unconstitutional because it deprives many deserving candidates to run for office. Let the voters decide. Diplomas do not prevent crooks, big time robbers and would be dictators from ascending to power if we are to look back at history and even in current events.

It's about time. Some politicians run for office and when they win then take special courses.
Sa corporate world ba puede yan? Mag apply ka munang accountant bago mag aral ng accountancy? Baka taong bayan pa ang nagbabayad.
Add civil service exams to the qualification. If government employees are required to present civil service certificates why shouldnt they? .
@jacinto luis: Yes.It requires a constitutional amendment. It goes along with Sen santiago 's proposal.

It's common for unions, or guilds, to erect barriers to entry. I notice she has a degree.
