This sort of thing happens all over the internet. Trolls, spam ,and much worse, dominate online commenting culture. There are many reasons for this, including:

*Commenting culture is relatively new, and not really respected.

*People who create, monitor, moderate, commenting do not fully understand the realities of the culture, even when those people are techies themselves. Commenting culture is the perfect storm created when technology and culture meet. Many people who work in "culture" have no understanding of technology, and many who work with technology have little understanding of the finer points of culture.

*At the the end of the day, it is all about money. As long as a certain level of profit is being realized no one cares about anything else.

It would take less than an hour for a programmer to create a filter that prevents posts with certain word or letter combinations from posting. Every other site does it. Look how many sites won't let you post if your post has profanity.
