old pc updates safe?

Due to multiple corruptions on my laptop I have no choice but to do a factory reset. I bought it in Sept. 2012 and I read on a tech site that older updates can carry malicious software as there is less security surrounding them now than when they were released. Is this true and if so how likely am I to be immediately infected by receiving 18 months worth of updates?

There is no issue with doing old updates. If anything being up to date as possible helps prevent issues. I would do as many updates as you can stand (Windows throws so many at you).

as long as you have up to date updates , it's ok. the up to date one will cover the old one. hope that helps.
