How do I tell if my motherboard is dead?
Alright so i built a new pc and i cant get a signal to my monitor. i have a graphics card. there are no onboard graphics. my gpus fan turns and is on when i hot porn and so is my cpu fan and my case fan hooked up through my motherboard. even though theres still power going through it, could my motherboard be dead? ive tried two different monitors and neither have detected a signal. i have it hooked up by a dvi-i dual link adapter that adapts it to a vga cable and thats how its hooked up. so how do i know if its my cords or my motherboard? btw i know that the gpu works cause it was my friends and he just took it out and put in a new 780 so he gave me his 650 and it work in his.
My gpus fan turns and is on when I turn hit power and so is my CPU fan turns also even though they are getting power through my motherboard, even though powers going through it could my motherboard be dead? I got the dvi converter from his 780 ti box so wouldn't it actually work? I'm getting a hdmi mini to an hdmi adapter, do you think that'd work?

When it was taken out of his computer, if it wasn't handled properly, it may well have been damaged by a small static electric charge from one of you handling it.

This section doesn't make sense. You need to make it so we can understand what you are saying.

@darrenforster99 , are you serious?
You need no boxes ,no expensive crap. When you're stuck with a vcard that has a dvi output and a monitor that has d-sub input , all you need is a an dvi-vga adapter that is usually included within the card's box.
I have about 4-5 of those lying around at home.
He only needs to try that adapter on each of the dvi ports.
If nothing works , is there a speaker inside your pc? motherboards sends beeps through that when a component is not working , so you know where the problem is.
Faulty ram sends one type of beeping , fault vcard sends another type of beeping , faulty cpu sends another type of beeping and so on. All these infos are easily found in the motherboard's manual.

If you've got a cable that goes from DVI to VGA that is most probably your problem.
Normally you can't go from DVI to VGA because DVI is digital and VGA (D-SUB) is analogue. You will get no picture unless you have a Digital Analogue Convertor (DAC) box somewhere. These are quite big boxes so you'd know if you have one of these.
If you don't have a DAC and are just trying it with a normal cable then it's most probably not going to work.
There are a lot of fake cables lying around out there that claim to go from DVI to DSUB or HDMI to SCART or something like that - they're all fake 'cos without a digital converter you can't do that, and DAC's are normally quite large and quite expensive boxes.
If you've got a monitor with a DVI connector on it try running it into that, or if you've got a TV with a HDMI connector on it get a cable that goes DVI to HDMI and then you should see a picture on screen (DVI and HDMI are both digital so it can be done that way without a DAC)

Has the Video card got TWO DVI outputs? if so have you tried the DVI-VGA adaptor in both?
It is common for only ONE of the DVI outputs to support the adaptor.
I had exactly the same problem with no signal, until I swapped outputs, both outputs work with a DVI cable but only one is wired to carry the VGA signal.

maybe there wire problem. either it no more functional or mistake in plug in. than the monitor, is it compatible to connect with pc?
