and the answer is 0.0479,-24.0479

2(1+r/12)^360=8.4
(1+r/12)^360=4.2
1+r/12=4.2^(1/360)
1+r/12 = 1.00399
r/12 = 0.00399
r = 0.04788
dunno about the negative part. But, because of the index is even *(-1)^2 = 1 and (1)^2 = 1*
1+r/12 = -1.00399
r/12 = -2.00399
r = -24.0479

Actually, you google the calculator procedure online for your particular calculator. What kind of calculator do you have?
