Something other than riddles for a scene in my story?
Basically, the main characters are kidnapped by monsters that want to eat them, with the exception of one of the characters, who is hiding in a bush/tree and pretending to be a "tree spirit" or something. She has to come up with a way to distract the monsters to free her friends, so I figured she could try play a game or something with the monsters. But, what could she do other than riddles or something similar (which i think is really overdone). Is there anything more original anyone could think of? I've thought of eye spy or something like that, but I'm still stuck. Plus, the character has to be hidden the whole time, so that the monsters don't realize she's tricking them. I would appreciate any ideas.

Have the character tell them ridiculous stories. Stories good enough to distract the monsters while they escape. (Perhaps have the character make them up as she goes, that's always fun.)
