my parents wont let me have project cars?!?
I just want to know if I am being unreasonable here. I am 21 years old, living with my parents, and coming up on my last semester of collage. I am going to collage to be an auto mechanic and have tried several ways to get to where I want to be and failed a couple of times because of my complete lack of knowledge in the field. My parents don't know the first thing about cars. We live in the country on 7 acres of land about 900ft from the road in a wooded ariea. we have tons of grass and places to park but my parents won't let me have an extra car just to tinker on and learn things about. they keep saying "we don't want to see it in our yard" and "YOU DON'T NEED AN EXTRA CAR" I want to buy another car to work on. I was even offered one for free by a family friend and they still said no. I feel like they are holding me back just because they don't want me to have another car. and I am not learning as much as I could. on a side note they both have 2 cars that they park one of each in the yard and are letting one of there own friends store a car in our yard for over a year now. am I being unreasonable here?
update I only have the one car that have to drive every day (I live in the middle of nowhere I cannot take a taxi or a bus or get a ride) and I do have a good job but spending 26hours a week sitting in a classroom dosent leave a ton of time for work on top of all that its a half hour drive to school and another half hour drive to work so between paying for my own school and car I cannt afford to move out I am just trying to learn as much as I can.

You live in their house. It don't matter how old you are. If it is their property and you reside there they make the rules. If you don't want to be "held back" as you are saying you are perhaps it is time to go get a job and get your own place to store a car in the yard and make it look like the local junk yard.

I think so. How many cars do you have? Are they all well kept and don't look like you are trying to start your own personal auto dismantler business in their yard? If you want to build, build a shed to put the car in so it doesn't make your parent's yard look like a junk yard.

Have you told your dad what you printed here? Really, if it's his car as he's paying for it you're going to have to abide by his rules. But if you really sit down and talk to him without being whiny (drop all the stuff comparing his campus to yours and quit whining about the hills) and if you're willing to compromise about when and how you'll use the car once you're there you may be able to change his mind.

I want to ask the same question as the previous person.
