Best way to generate power?

What is the best way to generate power? Is it hand/hip stop at the same time? Hand stops first and hip pushes through after? Or hip stops first? Is it better to leave your back heel (say your in a front stance) on the ground or do you pick it up? Do you use the same method of generating power for all strikes and counters or do you do something different for each one?

The method differs slightly, based upon the strike and the stance. Generating increased power is a process, not a single action. Dropping into a deeper stance, an instant before contact, tightens the core much more than a conscious constriction of the abs. A tight core reflects, rather than absorbs power. Focusing on the retracting hand increases hip movement more than just trying to turn the hips. Delivering a bow from an excellent stance prevents recoil that would detract from delivered power. There are many other movements you can incorporate into specific strikes, in order to make them more effective. It gets pretty detailed, but details add up. See if you can find a place that offers classes on power theory. I have taken several. They were very good, but it takes a while to absorb and learn to properly utilize the information.

Are Sifu make us do punches while we walk...never pick the back foot up it should be stable but flexible at the same time it slides no lift .. lifting your back foot decreases power.. when you punch or kick your hip will always be in front of the arm or leg.. this is what is called hips leading your punch or kick.. you just need a light bend in the knees ... this will give more power ... hips leading makes you put a punch or a kick throw the target.. in all hips and stance does help but understanding even the basics of the movements will help.. basic jab is still the same as a power jab you just use more force to create power which is the movement of the hips.. its going to be foot/hips to arm.. your fist will follow your arm.. always have slight bend in the arm.. so really its foot/hips that generates the most power either punching or kicking..
