I have met people who crossed the border without a passport. It can be done, but you will be hassled, especially if your name is Jesus Valdez.

Passport required. How long do you want to spend in detention while they verify your documentation? Worse, they're more likely to send you back to Mexico to queue up to apply for a passport at the consulate.

Your brother needs to fly into San Diego. It has an airport, you know.

No. A passport is required to re-enter the US from Mexico.

No you can't anymore. U.S. passport is required of U.S. citizens, and visas of immigrants. You can thank the WHTI for that and a post 9-11 world we live in.
