You can go for Alkaline batteries. They provide more power than rechargeable batteries.

Rechargeable batteries are often closer to 1.2V than 1.5V. Does the manual for your camera say that it can take rechargeable batteries? If so does it say what type - such as NiCd or Ni-MH ?
