Tenants rights-landlord doesnt want tenants to have a chest freezer?

Our landlord is making very specific requests outside of our lease contract. We have been asked not to keep a chest freezer on the back deck, which is reasonable, but also stated she doesnt want us to have it inside.

We want to stay on good terms, but also need a chest freezer. The real kicker is that there is no reasonable way for us to get it into the house without going through her locked storage space. Only she has the key. What are the tenants rights in this situation?

If they have told you you cannot have it inside or outside, that is the answer. The property owner has spoken. It does not have to be specified in the lease. As other people have said, if landlord pays electric that may be the reason or maybe the wiring is too old.

"there is no reasonable way for us to get it into the house without going through her locked storage space. Only she has the key."

    This is an ILLEGAL rental.

ALL rentals MUST have an access for the tenant, as well as a second code approved "egress" (exit) besides the entrance. If the unit is "below grade" (a basement) then the windows must be special code compliant. This means lower to the floor, larger, and a means of climbing up out of any "well" to the ground level.

Unless the freezer is specifically allowed in the lease, she has every right to deny you the freezer.

Who pays the electric? Will electrical outlets within the home support the freezer?
