Why does the US stick their noses where they dont belong?

Question

This is a question I asked in Government class because we go over what the US is going through with other countries and I asked "why do we care about whats going on in other countries when we have our own things to worry about?" 50 mill + people starving or poor in america, but we sure do like to spend all the money on our military and guns for them. We have a president issuing warnings to countries that we dont want to piss off. Why cant we just focus on our own problems in the US?

Obama just gave the Ukraine 1 Billion.  Compare this to the 300 million he gave starving Detroit.
The Ukraine can easily become an enemy of ours in the future.

50 mil starving is very nice by the rest of the world's standards. The reason the US is the police and charity givers of the world is because we don't stick our noses in, we are called upon. With great power comes great responsibility, and the US is quite powerful.

We don't need to get involved, unless our Allies are threatened.
50+ million on food stamps.
NOBODY in this country is starving.
If they are, they are selling their food stamps for pennies on the dollar!
