How do website owners report to the IRS?

I'm launching a website soon and I will have available ad spaces for local businesses. I will only accept cash and checks. I don't plan on having an ecommerce section. I will only be making profit from the ads.

Does this categorize me as self employed?

Does this make me a business owner?

Also, if I'm not mistaken, the banks are forced to report any deposits/transactions greater than $5,000 to the IRS. If my account ever reaches that amount, will the IRS audit me?

If I ever need any help my friends can help me out with the website. Since they are not employed by me they are considered contractors right? I will pay them a certain amount to do a job. This is considered a business expense right?

Yes, it categorizes me as self employed.

Yes, it makes you a business owner.

Banks don't have to report all deposits/transactions greater than $5,000 to the IRS. They don't report checks (unless its an IRA or HSA). They only report cash. And $5000 isn't the amount. Even if my account reaches that amount, it doesn't matter. They don't report the amount in the account (unless it's an IRA). They only report it if it was deposited in cash, in a single transaction, or in a very short period of time.

If you pay your friends and they are not employed by you, they are considered contractors. If they help you for free, they are not considered contractors. This is considered a business expense right. It's simple if they are each made under $600. If any of them gets paid over $600, then you have to tell the IRS your friend's name, address, and social security number, and your friend will have to pay self-employment tax on the money and your friend will have to pay income tax on the money.

It's really a non-issue since no business is going to send you cash or a check to advertise on your website.
