IP address error, no matter what network?
I was away from home for a few weeks and using a shaky internet connection out in the middle of nowhere. Then, I came home three days ago and tried the use the same network I've used for years without a problem, and suddenly, I could only connect to the network with limited access because supposedly there was another computer with the same ip address as mine on the network. I tried resetting the wireless network adapter probably fifty times or so, disabling and re-enabling the network and adapter, renewing the ip address, and pretty much anything and everything else I could think of. Nothing worked at home, so I finally gave up and went to Starbucks to get some public wifi and I had the exact same problem with the ip address. Finally, I ran system restore, and it worked at Starbucks, but again, not at home. Today, I thought I'd try it at McDonalds, and again I got the ip address error. I tried the usual stuff with no luck, and then restored it to a prior point, but couldn't get it to work at all at McDonalds. But now, I'm back using the shaky connection out in the middle of nowhere and for the moment, it's working fine. I have the suspicion, however, that this is only a temporary fix, which is why I'm asking this now, while I have internet.
So what's going on? Obviously, there isn't a computer with the exact same ip address as mine at every network I try! Anyone know how the heck I solve this?
Have I tried turning off and on again? Only about 300 times. Trust me, if the fix was that easy, I wouldn't be asking. And if that's a reference to the IT Crowd, I appreciate that it's supposed to be funny, but I'm really not in the mood. I need this problem solved, and no, it's not as easy as that.
Thanks, Bob. I'll give that a shot.

Hey Jo, I hope you didn't do what "Bob" asked you to do. I've been around PCs since 1984 and have NEVER suggested that someone delete part of their operating system. Yikes! That's some bad advice. Anyway, if deleting that folder would do some good, then it would follow that simply RENAMING that folder would be just as effective -- and you'd have the extra benefit that you could rename the darn thing back when you found out that you need that folder. Better yet -- just don't mess with that folder.
Looks like Brian gave you some good advice. Check out your Wi-Fi adapter's IPv4 properties and make sure you don't have a static IP address set. Your symptoms sound like you do.
Good luck!

I suggest that you are not picking up a DHCP address and you are set with a static IP address.
Check the properties of your wireless connection and be sure that the radio button is selected for Obtain an IP address automatically.

Don't delete System32. Just google it and you will see why.
The first thing I would check is the settings on your wireless adapter:
-Go to Control Panel>Network and Internet> Network and Sharing Center
-On the left pane, click change adapter settings.
-Right click on the adapter you are using (in this case, it should be Wireless Network Connection) then click properties
-Scroll down to Internet Protocol Version 4, click on it, then click properties
-Make sure the bubbles for "obtain IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" are both selected.
If that is the case, make sure your DHCP Client is running.
"-Hold down the Windows Key and press R
-Type services.msc in the box that appears and click ok
-In the list of services look for DHCP Client. It should have a status of Running and a startup type of Automatic.
-If not you can change this from right-click > properties"

You can also make money answering web surveys. I'm making $1800/month using this site: http://is.gd/myeasycash It is a little monotonous work nevertheless a lot better than working at KFC.
