What is this horror book about a bell?

All I remember is that the main characters are kids, the school building is somehow important in the plot, and there's some evil stuff going on.

The one very intelligent kid finds information about The Stele Of Revealing. It's some evil black magic thing. It was destroyed centuries ago, but secretly re-cast as a big bell. This bell somehow ended up in this town.

That's all I remember.

I read this years ago, and just suddenly wondered what it was called. Any ideas?
