Having trouble connecting to Xbox Live. Can someone please help me?

Trying to connect for my son. Set up 2 accounts on Microsoft. 1 for my son and 1 parental account. We purchased the Xbox Live Gold MemebershipGreen Card at Gamestop. My husband bought the cable....ran the wire..checked all connections and ports...all is connected. We went to put in the code (the scratch code on the Green Card) and it said "Something is wrong". We spoke with Microsoft Tech Support and Verizon support. We were on the phone and computer for almost 2 hours!!!! It is not connecting and I don't think they know why, either!! They now told my husband that it could be the cable. (Mind you, my husband is a Master Electrician)....so...we kept the receipt and he un-ran the wires and is now bringing back to the store to exchange for another one. What if it happens again. So it won't be the 'cable is defective' solution. What if it's my computer? Is there someway I can check to see if it's the computer? We are at our wit's end at this point!! PLS....WE NEED HELP! ANY INPUT WILL BE APPRECIATED!

Thank you.

Hello, I have had a few problems that sounded similar to this. could you first let me know if he is trying to connect the router to the xbox instead of using wireless connection?

Have I got the wrong end of the stick, are you able to connect to your router but the internet is not working for you?

Ooooo actually, it may have nothing to do with your internet connection at all!

there may be a few culprits to blame here:

    1. Something has gone wrong with you card. I suggest contacting Gamestop and making sure they activated your sons code, and if this doesn't resolve the issue, try re-contacting Microsoft but raise the issue that you suspect something may be wrong with the prepaid card you are using.

    2. Microsoft may still be updating the commerce.microsoft.com website so this may be causing a issue for your code.

Once again I would contact Microsoft and let them know you think this may be the case and ask them to fix it for you.

If there is no resolution, you can always file a complaint and request a new membership code of Microsoft.

    3. Also check your account's region is set to the right place, as this may be causing the problem, as membership codes, have things called region codes. Allowing them only to be used in that region.

    I hope I helped.

The odds of the cable itself being bad are one in a million.

You are connecting the cord to the router which has internet access from your modem, right? Not to your computer.
