Japanese pronunciation of onna no hito and otoko no hito?

I was slightly confused as on paper the hiragana end part is 'no hito' but I hear it pronounced something like 'noshto'?

Am I correct in thinking that phonetically woman is spoken as:

on-nanoshto

And man is:

otoko-noshto

    Saying it quickly, it's not impossible to mishear the "hi" as a "sh" sound. The Japanese "hi" does have a bit of a difference from a native English-speaker's use, I suppose, that could be where you're confused. You are not, however, supposed to make a clearly audible "sh" sound.

    ON-na no HI-to, capitalization represents where emphasis should be placed.
