  • How much is a perfect smile worth to you?

In terms of how you feel and also in terms of cost.

  • How do you let go of old acquaintances?

I'm turning over a new leaf and I've decided to cut ties with some old contacts I no regularly converse with.

I need to delete them but I feel bad about it, because I still consider them friends, how do I let go?

  • If you could only have one which would you rather have: preorder DLC, day early delivery, or cheapest price?

Same as title. You get one option of the three, so, for example, if you pick day early delivery you don't get preorder dlc or the cheapest price.

    Which would you pick?

  • How can championing a single gender ever lead to equality?

Feminists, please explain to me how championing a single gender can ever lead to equality?

Just from my personal perception I see talk of raising women up to the same opportunities as men, as if equality is a single set of scales and it is a matter of raising one side. But aren't women better off in some cases than men? Surely a more apt metaphor would be many sets of scales each set one way or the other.

I just don't understand how the feminist view can ever lead to equality if activists aren't willing to give up anything in terms of privilege.

What is your view on the subject?

  • How much do you sweat at 29C/84F?

Do you get sweat patches at this temperature? I live in a relatively mild area and only now noticed how easily I get sweat patches. Is this normal? Because I didn't see many others sweating as much.

  • How do you pronounce the negative form of -i adjectives in Japanese?

For example, takai desu becomes takakunai desu, so the -i syllable at the end is omitted entirely?

Phonetically it would be taka-kunai desu?

Phonetically for muzukashi desu it would be muzukashi-kunai desu or muzukash-kunai desu?

Phonetically for atsui desu it would be atsu-kunai desu?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Why does this last Japanese sentence use no?

Watashi wa shū ni ikkai oyogi ni ikimasu.

Watashi wa tsuki ni ikkai kaimono ni ikimasu.

Watashi wa nen ni ikkai no kyūjitsu ni ikimasu.

The no particle follows once a year, but not once a week or once a month. Why is that?

    1 AnswerLanguages7 years ago
  • How do you use once/twice/thrice a week/month/year in Japanese sentences?

Could you give me some example sentences?

Also a direct translation of these would be cool:

I go swimming once a week.

    (isshuukan ni ikkai oyogimasu?)

I go shopping once a month.

I go on holiday once year.

    Thank you.

  • Do Japanese people get a shock from different countries perspective of recent history?

Just a disclaimer, I'm not trolling. I'm generally curious how the Japanese feel about different perceptions of the war and their role in it. From what I have understand Japanese kids are taught a very different kind of war history than Western countries.

Feel free to comment even if you're not Japanese. Maybe you've been to Japan and talked about it or read/heard a lot about this subject.

  • How can I contact the head of Yahoo Answers?

I'm really frustrated by Yahoo Answers. (I should probably take a break from the site)

This site is poorly designed. It becomes ever increasingly difficult to get an answer to a straight question you ask on Answers. So why post questions at all? Does anyone ever click the fewest answers tab? What about international timezones? Why is most recent the default? Why aren't questions curated for people who answer similar questions by keyword?

I also have to question why it is so difficult to directly contact staff. I don't see why there isn't a contact us staff button on the bottom of EVERY page. Where is the duty of care to the user?

Why does Yahoo Answers operate like a faceless entity where the only presence of staff is the occasional message deleted?

    I'm guessing anata no kiji?

I'm basically saying the news story you were in.

  • How to get curls like this?

    http://astarworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/R...

That shine and it looks styled but messy, I like how it looks.

My hair is naturally curly. Like this when short and grows out a bit messy, sometimes a bit dull:

  • Can you recommend me some good jdramas?

    Few preferences:

-I'm not interested in the dramas based around someone who is about to die.

-I'm not interested in dramas revolving around kids still at school. Kids and a school can feature in it, but I don't want it to revolve around it completely.

    -A bonus if it's recent.

    Recently watched and liked:

    Hanzawa Naoki, At Home Dad

Both cheesy, but they had some redeeming qualities.

  • Best way to start learning Kanji?

I've checked out some sites, but I'm thoroughly confused with kunyomi, onyomi, plus other pronunciations, and of course there are differing opinions on which order to learn them.

Is there a book or a website that explains it simply with a good learning order from radicals and beyond?

    1 AnswerLanguages7 years ago
  • Easy question, can someone who knows Kanji explain this to me?

    http://kanjidamage.com/kanji/1-one-line-radical-%E...

I don't understand how to know if it's ichi or itsu? Also there is another pronunciation of tsui? like in tsuitachi?

I assume the onyomi is only ever used with other kanji and if hiragana or okurigana is present it's kunyomi pronunciiation?

It's just very confusing to me. Can someone explain it simply how to tell which pronunciation it is?

  • More natural way to describe object position in Japanese?

Basically, I'm describing the locations of objects, and it's continuously "object no ue ni object ga arimasu. object no tonari ni another object ya another object ga arimasu"

Is there a way to make location/position descriptions sound more natural?

  • Would a French person care if you said 'Agincourt' to them?

A man recounted a story on his blog that his father told him never to say Agincourt to the French. He was curious and said it to a shop keeper who apparently threw his coins back at him.

Surely nobody in France still cares about this?

  • Can you help me fix my Japanese report?

I just need it to be simple, but sound natural, for it to flow like a short story. Any changes - and why you would change it - would be appreciated.

    Romaji version:

watashi wa kinyoubi ni chichisanto densha de rondon ni ikimashita.

watashitachi wa (katakana) seinto po-ruzu katedoraru (katakana) ni ikimashita. kenchiku wa totemo kirei desu.

watashitachi was (katakana) taito moderun (katkana) ni ikimashita. hanshita wa omoshiroi desu.

watashitachi wa (katakana) rondon muzeumu (katakana) ni ikimashita. watashitachi wa shutsudohin ga mirimasta. Totemo sugoi.

    watashitachi wa uchi ni kaerimashita.

Basically, what I want to say is:

On friday, I went to london with my father by train. We went to saint paul's cathedral. The architecture was very beautiful.

After, we went to the tate modern. The artwork there was interesting.

After that, we went to the London museum. We saw some amazing artefacts.

    Then, we returned home.

I was slightly confused as on paper the hiragana end part is 'no hito' but I hear it pronounced something like 'noshto'?

Am I correct in thinking that phonetically woman is spoken as:

    on-nanoshto

    And man is:

    otoko-noshto
