How can championing a single gender ever lead to equality?

Feminists, please explain to me how championing a single gender can ever lead to equality?

Just from my personal perception I see talk of raising women up to the same opportunities as men, as if equality is a single set of scales and it is a matter of raising one side. But aren't women better off in some cases than men? Surely a more apt metaphor would be many sets of scales each set one way or the other.

I just don't understand how the feminist view can ever lead to equality if activists aren't willing to give up anything in terms of privilege.

What is your view on the subject?

I think addressing policy that discriminate against one gender to make such policies more equal can be a move towards equality. Decades go when feminists helped push equal voting rights, the equal pay act, etc., those were moves towards equality. It's the same with the MRM today pushing for males victims to have equal access or to get rid of women being automatically favored in child custody.

Pushing for policies that advantage one gender over the other as feminists have done over the past few decades is obviously a move away from equality.
