Is there a great possibility that I may have rabies?

Last night my dog bit me, I wasn't too freaked out til I saw that she may have needed a rabies shot in 2012.... My dad said that she got it but I'm not too sure.

Anyways, pretend she doesn't have her rabies shot. She hasn't been acting weird or anything, I just got a little bit too close to her while she was trying to get food. She's also never been in contact with any wild animals or really any domesticated animals. Every time she goes outside she's being watched - so in that scenario is there a great chance that me and her may have rabies? I can't go to the doc right now.

Update:

I should also add that she bit me a few months ago as well but it wasn't as bad as this bite. Does the severity of the bite have anything to do with contracting rabies?

You dog needs to be bitten by a rabid animal in order for rabies to be transmitted. If your dog had rabies, believe me, you would know it.

Why don't you google Rabies and get accurate info yourself.

I seriously can't believe that in this day and age, no one understands how rabies is transmitted. Google Rabies and get accurate info.

    You don't have rabies.

Why not search - how rabies is transmitted. There's a lot of information online about this. As long as you know your dog hasn't been in contact with another rabid animal, you'll be fine. HOWEVER you must get her rabies booster - if she happened to bite somebody else, and you couldn't prove her rabies booster is current, she'll be seized and held in quarantine. If there are any signs of rabies, she'd be pts because the only way this can be confirmed is to examine the brain. The good news is it's self- limiting - in other words eventually a rabid animal dies in any case.

If you don't know for sure she's not been in contact with a rabid animal, then yes, you are at risk.

The severity of the bite doesn't matter - if the skin is broken and if the dog is carrying rabies, it will be passed on.

How old is the dog? If the dog is older and has received regular booster shots until 2012 the immunity is going to still be good.

Depending on the country you live in it also would be very unlikely that you dog has rabies. There are very few actual rabies cases e.g. in the US.

Also the dog didn't attack you out of the blue, which indicates that your dog doesn't have rabies. However it sounds like your dog is food aggressive, which is something you definitely will want to address through training.
