Why do Italin cars cost so much?
My son is getting one of those lambghini or something and I don't understand the prices. I'm not a car guy and id rather own luxury sedans than anything so it confuses me why Italian cars are costing so much. He is getting a 300 thousand dollar car that I can't see the use for. Personally if I'm going to buy an over priced two seater I'd just get a Lexus or something. Can anyone explain why they are so expensive and the use for them?

Not all of them cost so much. Fiat sells affordable cars in North America and they are planning on introducing (or re-introducing) Alfa Romeo which makes not-so cheap but not-so expensive cars.
I'm also not a fan of those $300K cars, i think it only appeals to someone who is 5. The most "exotic" car that I would buy is a Porsche 911 (a real grown up car) which is 1/3 of the price, cheaper to maintain but it still has that exotic feel
You son is buying a highly engineered exotic car which explains why. They also come with sky rocket cost of ownership

Funny, Fiats are Italian and they don't cost that much!
It is not where the car was made but the name on the car that tells you what income bracket the car is with in the pocketbook range of. If a person wants to order a new Ferrari for example- you have to prove that you are of the right income bracket and of the right moral values to own one.
Such cars are nice- but a person could purchase a life time of Fiats for the cost of one exotic and still have money for a house.

They are mostly hand built and a LAMBORGHINI is really a VW! IF your son is that RICH< have him send me a nice used AUDI ALLROAD! It is ALSO a VW but will never rust! a LAMBORGHINI is a waste and a ticket collector! WHERE in our STUPID country can you drive a LAMBORGHINI the way it was MEANT to be driven! It can BLOW UP on American roads because we are DUMB PEOPLE with LOW speed limits and INSANE legislators that ruin HAVING a great EURO CAR! ALL CARS should be rated for TOP SPEED based on TYPE of car and TIRE USE! It is the SANE way to do things! A LUMINA should NOT be able to drive as FAST as a PORSCHE or AUDI or even a VW! We should have COLORED TAGS that allow different HIGHWAY SPEEDS< and more sophisticated GPS systems to help avoid accidents! we are STILL TWENTY YEARS behind EUROPE In many ways! We make GREAT MISSILES<but have LOUSY SCHOOLS and ROADS< and LEADERS! Send ME the money yo u save for being SMART! A LAMBO can blow up if NOT driven QUICKLY! It is not a GROCERY GETTER! WEIRD QUESTION!

The cars you mentioned are considered "exotics." They are build in limited numbers for wealthy customers. They are usually very powerful, but not very reliable, which means expensive upkeep and repairs, not to mention outrageous insurance rates. They are primarily targeted to people who have a need to show off their wealth (or sometimes, pretended wealth).
The Italians also build "normal" cars, or which Fiat is one. Fiat is marketed the U.S.

Wait until you see the mechanics bill to keep the sucker on the road, I'll take a Benz over that Maserati junk any day.
