Did the Cold War shaped Latin America in anyway?

Where there any negative side effects with that? Did US do anything to help or made things worse?

Absolutely the Cold War shaped Latin America. Most of the wars there in the later half of the 20th century were deeply influenced by the Cold War. In particular, since a number of rebel groups were leftist, socialist, or quasi-Communist, in ideology, the US supported an awful lot of vicious right wing dictatorships in Latin America. The US even supported coups against democratically elected leftist governments in some Latin American countries.
