Absolutely. Get rid of 99% of loopholes, exemptions, and subsidies. Have only 3 brackets. Cut the size of the IRS by 50% - enough people to answer questions and process these simpler returns.

That will NEVER happen. Lobbyists wrote the tax code and politicians are so scared to cross them the last suggestion would keep their opinions on tax code changes secret for 50 years in locked safes on different servers
