Why do Christians put the opinions of Paul ahead of Christ's?

Paul--aka Saul the murderer said all you need to be "saved'is to confess Christ with your tongue-Christ said calling me "Lord,Lord"--means nothing

Paul said a lot more than Rom 10:9-10, and Paul was an agent specifically chosen by Jesus Christ (Ac 9:15). In that same book, Paul wrote: "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? May it never be!" (Rom 6:1). Does that sound like he turned a deaf ear toward sin? He also wrote: "Or don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortioners, will inherit the Kingdom of God." (1Cor 6:9-10).

The "opinions" of Paul ARE the "opinions" of Christ.

St. Paul was ordained by Christ. His doctrines, dogmas, and theology are all backed by the authority of Christ. To deny St. Paul is to deny Christ Himself who sent him and Divinely-inspired his teachings.

And St. Paul never said that all you need to do is "confess Christ with your tongue." He did say that that's a part of it, but he never said "alone." He also said that the righteous would LIVE by faith and that not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God but the doers of the law.

Christ, in His perfection, spoke in ways that transcend all cultures and times, so the He can be understood more readily than any other, in His Words.....

This fact is often important, as so much controversy can be laid aside simply by reading Christ Himself....and trusting Him.

Too often, people attach too much significance to their interpretations of various bits in the epistles. It's kinda losing the forest for the trees.

christianity at least catholicism and orthodox, is the religion of Paul. Jesus probably didn't exist. Paul claimed he met jesus in a dream, in the same way that John Smith or David Khoresh had dubious visions.

What is your question? Are you implying that Paul and Jesus contradict each other because one said "Christ" and the other "Lord"?

Say if your mother tells you "Call your sister inside" and you go out and say, "Sally, mom wants you." According to your logic, you disobeyed your mom because you didn't say "sister."

    See how silly this is?

Let Paul himself answer that question:

1 Corinthians 1:10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say...but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. 11 My brothers and sisters, some...have informed me that there are quarrels among you. 12 WHAT I MEAN IS THIS: ONE OF YOU SAYS “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas**; still another, “I follow Christ.”

13 IS CHRIST DIVIDED? WAS PAUL CRUCIFIED FOR YOU? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 SO NO ONE CAN SAY YOU WERE BAPTIZED IN MY NAME. 16 (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) 17 FOR CHRIST DID NOT SEND ME TO BAPTIZE, BUT TO PREACH THE GOSPEL

    -----

Huffyb, Christians DON'T put Paul's opinions ahead of those of Christ. There are several reasons for this:

    1) Christ did not have "opinions," as such, in the subjective sense of "I vote Democrat/Republican because I think they..." Jesus IS THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE (John 14:6). Anything He said was literally, objectively true, except when He told parables, and even then the underlying message of the parables was true.

    2) Paul's "opinions" were shaped by his love for Jesus Christ and his divinely appointed mission to spread the Gospel, especially to Europe and Rome. As demonstrated in the passage above, Paul DID NOT WANT ANYONE TO FOLLOW HIMSELF, PAUL. HE WANTED THEM TO FOLLOW CHRIST.

    3) It's very popular nowadays, for non-Christians to say that Paul preached a different Gospel from Jesus Himself, as though Paul were Jesus' rival or something. Again, see the passage above. I'm convinced the reason non-Christians like to claim this is that it's a convenient way to belittle Jesus Himself and/or to upset and embarrass Christians.

    4) It's also very popular for non-Christians to claim that Christians put Paul's opinions ahead of Christ's, but I've never yet met a Christian who actually did put Paul ahead of Christ, in any way. And Paul himself would have been absolutely horrified if any "Christian" really DID put him ahead of Christ, because anyone who did so would NOT BE A CHRISTIAN AT ALL. A Christian is someone who puts Jesus Christ ahead of everyone and everything else.

Matthew 10:37 [Jesus said] “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me."

** Cephas is another name for Peter.

Good question. Yet it is God that defines 'saved' and 'belief'. Paul is correct as long as the power of God is at work, which is what he says.

Lastly, Jesus didn't say that saying 'Lord-Lord' means nothing. Reread the passage.

    God bless you,

The Gospels were written after Paul's letters and are basically fanfictions about Jesus' life.

Paul's is a separate fanfiction about Jesus too. Although Paul was probably the inventor of Jesus (kind of the Joseph Smith of his time).

You have misquoted the scripture. That is not what Jesus said and not what He meant. Details are important.
