What are the white lumps on my goldfish's pectoral fins?

One of my comet goldfish (furthers right) has developed lumps on it's pectoral fins over the past couple of years. The fish are around 5 years old in a pond of 4 feet diameter. The fish appears to be happy enough despite the white tubers. Does anyone know what causes this and should I do something to treat it?

It could be a product of genetic mutation. A handful of the goldfish in my house pond have some white or dark lumps on the fins or body.
