Adding his name to the birth certificate is meaningless. You need to get a court order of support or paternity. If you get a court order of paternity his name can then be added to the child's birth certificate.

It doesn't matter what state a father lives in - it doesn't change the fact that a person is the father, does it? Plenty of fathers live in different states than their children and are required to provide support.

So petition the court for child support and do whatever needs to be done to prove paternity if he doesn't recognize the child as his.

Heck YES you can. As long as the DNA matches and his name does NOT have to be on the Birth Certificate.

Contact a lawyer and get the process started NOW!

Yes. You will need to contact a lawyer and get your ex to take a DNA test, if he has not already done that, to establish his paternity. Your ex will be entitled to request visitation with the child. But the fact that he moved to another state does not affect his legal obligation to pay child support.
