I don't know if your baby will be taken from you because I don't know where you live, but I've never heard of a baby being taken away due to a mother being exposed to second-hand smoke. That being said, it's bad for yours and for the babies health. Can you talk to the smokers and ask them to stop, to cut down or to at least smoke outside? All of these things would reduce the risk to the baby and if these people love you and your baby they should at least try to cut down. If they won't, it might be a good idea for you to spend time far away from the smoking, perhaps in a bedroom with your door closed and your window open so your exposure is less. Maybe spend time out of the house somewhere safe through the day, when you're not at school, maybe spend a few extra hours at the library or go to the mall or something.

If you have a social worker on your case maybe talk to them and see what solutions they can offer. I don't know if they'll do anything but if you show concern hopefully there's something they could do. Breathing in cigarette smoke really can have terrible effects on your pregnancy and on your baby when it's born so someone should do something in this situation. I'm very sorry you're going through this and I hope your baby will be born healthily and happily. Whilst this will be an unpopular opinion I think you're very brave to have not gone through with the abortion, it takes a lot to step up and decide to do the right thing for your child and I hope you'll both have a bright future ahead of you, whether you're going to be raising the little one or not.

    It's simple really.

    a) Do you want the baby to lead a fulfilling life?

    b) Do you want the baby to grow up in a toxic environment where you most likely can not provide what it needs?

You've made a mistake and you need to own up to it. That baby WILL NOT get the treatment it needs if you are definitely going to bring it up around smokers working a minimum wage job. Especially at sixteen where you have no other options.

Do the right thing and get an abortion or let someone who can actually care for it adopt it. This is the decision you will make if you truly love the baby.
