What we had to use for gymnastics was really strong... probably cuz it had to be since it was gymnastics... and it literally locks your hair in place but still lets it move it is called pump it up gold heres a pic and you can get it at drug stores and its really cheap but it is really really strong and good even though its cheap

If you want the super strong stuff try Joico Joimist Firm Finishing spray. I think it's the best one out there and your hair will not move!

Something Punks used to use to hold up a Mowhawk is soap, soften it by warming it a little and rub it onto your hair. Another thing you can use is Egg Whites or even Copydex but that's pretty drastic and only if you need long term hold.
