I don't want or need a gmail account. I already have one with yahoo. But I use google play all the time. Can I delete my gmail account but still use google play?

google play will only open when you are logged in with a gmail account..google play requires a google account..so u cannot use it without that.

No, you cannot. You will need a Google account to download apps from Play Store.
