What poems that represent British culture?

Hi,

I'm looking for some poems that represent British history or culture that a foreign student of good (but by no means fluent) English skills would appreciate.

So far I've only come up with Flanders Fields. Any other recommendations would be appreciated! (The poems can be about anything: love, war, family, nature etc.)

Just have a look at any anthology of poems in the library, in a second hand bookshop, on amazon... but remember, poems use metaphor, simile, alliteration, allusion, and many other ways of expression that are much harder for a learner to comprehend, than straight-forward prose.

Flanders Fields as an expression of British culture? If you want to get across the futility and waste of war, get them Wilfred Owen, not that sentimental stuff..

"You Are Old, Father William" by Lewis Carroll in "Alice in Wonderland"? It is fairly simple, yet epitomizes the wry, sardonic British sense of humo[u]r.
