Is the Chevy Avalanche a good truck?

I'm 18 and looking at buying my first car. I used to drive my parents suburban until they sold it and I personally like having the bigger car. I'm a bigger guy and it gives me space and all the power I need. I'm looking at the 2002-2004 Chevy Avalanche. I kinda like them they look pretty cool. And I'm one to wash and wax it every two weeks and maintain it. I'm starting college in August and I'll live at home. But my current job gets me $800-$1000 a month. And they are going between $9000 - $11000 here. I was wondering how reliable they are, and what the pros and cons about them. And the buying process. I've never bought a car so I don't know what to expect. I know I need credit but I don't have any. But I am looking and places with their own financing or something. Any tips on buying process? Thanks!

I think you would be far better off financially to buy a $3000 beater, and the minimum required insurance. You will save that $3000 in a couple years, then will be driving for nothing. It will make a huge difference in how much debt you have when you leave college.

It is 95% the SAME vehicle as a Suburban.

I hope you like spending a lot of time at the gas station. Those get horrible gas mileage . . .

So good that Chevrolet dropped it from their production line almost two years ago.

Consumer Reports thinks so. They rate it as one of the best trucks.
