HELP! DR ON VACATION NEED SCRIPT REFILL!?

My Dr is on Vacation this week in mexico, i had no idea he was until i called on wednesday for my refill for 15mg oxycodone, i am on a pretty high dose (4 times a day) from back surgery and complications and on Wednesday they told me that he was checking in on tuesday and thursday (today) to get scripts filled ( i guess they fax each other or something). well anyway i had to wait an extra day with zero pills and i called this morning and they said he didnt call yet, then they called me back right before they left and said he didnt call or fax my script and they are not going to be in tomorrow so i have to wait until monday when he is back. he never sent in my script, he has been giving me it for almost 2 years and has no problem considering my terrible condition, she just said she was sorry she couldnt do anything, personally i belive one of the nurses messed up as they have before. but in the meantime what can i do? My Dr doesnt have an email for patients, the nurse on the phone said if my withdraws this weekend get to extreme go to the ER, but there has to be a way to get a Dr to fill it, i have all my old bottles and i just started getting some pretty bad withdraws today, i dont know what to do. i dont want to go to the ER to only get out of pain for an hour or 2 and be stuck with a fat check. its only thursday so i NEED something.

Update:

i didnt wait, my script is a controlled substance, i can only get it once every 30 days and no refills

Yow! You are kind of screwed. Oxycodone is a schedule 2 drug, no Rx faxes, no Rx phone calls. DEA rules unfortunately. The worst thing is even if you go to the ER in acute withdrawal, they probably wont give you enough to get through a 3 day weekend.

If this is a pain specialist, can your primary care doc cover you for the time being? Oh this is so screwed. Its inhuman but it happens all the time. Thanks for nothing, DEA.

What kind of pharmacy do you use? If its a big chain, forget it, but if its a relatively small operation and you have been using them for years and not had any issues, they may just do you a favor if you explain whats going on. Dont expect a 30day supply, but they may advance you a half dozen.

Last thing I guess is withdrawal aids. I find Nyquil invaluable. A little immodium may help too since its sort of a real weak opiate. It may or may not help with the actual withdrawal or not, it is something I thought of after my last bout with opiate WD and I am not looking to repeat it to find out. Worth a shot. I have also seen a lot of people saying melatonin is a huge help. Again I have no 1st hand research.

I suggest if you are going to contact a primary care doctor or talk to the pharmacist, go in person. Nobody gives straight answers about controlled substances over the phone. I wish I could help you more.

You need to have a long talk with your prescribing physician when he gets back. Find out what the hell happened and make arrangements (on your own if you have to) to have a few days worth of emergency medication at home. Stick it in a drawer and forget about it. You will remember it if something like this happens again. Hang in there.

Is your doctor in a group practice? If so, perhaps one of the other doctors could write a script that would cover you until Monday. (Why did you wait until you were nearly out of pills before getting a refill?)
