Best way to get a nice tan?

I'm extremely pale. My skin is really gross-looking with veins and red splotches, particularly on my legs. I've been using Sally Hansen's Leg Makeup all over my body and I love how beautifully golden brown it makes me but it doesn't last and makes my tattoos look weird. I don't want to use tanning beds because they're unhealthy. What's the best way to a safe, beautiful tan?

    Tips:

Don't start off tanning for a full day. Gradually add time to your tanning period. You WILL burn if you start off tanning longer than you should.

Always tan using natural sun and not tanning salons. The light in the salons can greatly increase your risk of skin cancer.

Make sure you go out in the sun at the right times.

Don't wear oil and hold a metal slate.

Sunglasses are good if you have sensitive eyes. Try not to look directly into the sun!

Do not apply tanning oil with sunscreen in underarms and bikini line.

    Wear lip balm.

Make sure you tan each side the same amount of sun so you get a even tan.

    Keep water handy.

Try not to go into shaded areas for long periods of time.

Make sure that the SPF of your sunscreen is at least 50.

Make sure if you have light skin, tan yourself on each side for at least 20 minutes.

    Warnings:

May cause skin damage, cancer, wrinkles or burnt skin.

Looking directly into the sun can cause damage to the eyes.

Well, I use Jergens Natural Glow. Its a self tanner in the form of a lotion. You apply it daily and slowly build up color. It looks great, not orange, you don't have to lay in the sun and subject yourself to skin damage, and its reasonably priced. Try it out - for less than $10 you can get a bottle and see if you like it. Good luck!
