How come we can't compromise on anything?

I mean, Liberals want one thing, Conservatives want another. Why can't we sit down together and come up with a compromise?

Update:

This proves the point I am making. It took SIX answers before somebody actually gave an answer. All the other answers are just attacks against the other party!

We could compromise but both sides have to be willing to give a little and realize they won't get everything they want. Our government officials have compromised before and it could be done again, with the right kind of people. I am not totally giving up on compromise.

Unfortunately we have reach a period in time where the Democrats idea of compromise is if you win an election you should be magnanimous and give me what I want anyway.

On the other hand If the Democrats win you just need to accept it because elections have consequences.

The Republicans have tried to compromise for years but never got anywhere.

George W Bush compromised by pushing and signing into law Senator Kennedy's No Child Left Behind law.

Under the current administration we have been told we have no say.

President Obama refuses to even try to reach across the isle.

In fact he barley even talks to members of his own party.

You can not compromise if the other side is not willing to talk.

Because both parties have made such a level of hostility that having any compromise is seen as giving in. They have carried the hostility born during elections into the government itself. This makes it impossible for anything to get done that requires the two parties to get together. They have forgotten how governing is done and how it actually moves forward.

The rep politicians don't want any credit going to the Obama admin ... only blame. This works well for gullible, simple minded people who can't see how the rep party obstruction is counter productive for America.

The reps have shattered the record for filibusters and their obstruction lead to the lowest rated congress in history ...

"On the night of Barack Obama’s inauguration, a group of top GOP luminaries quietly gathered in a Washington steakhouse to lick their wounds and ultimately create the outline of a plan for how to deal with the incoming administration.

“The room was filled. It was a who’s who of ranking members who had at one point been committee chairmen, or in the majority, who now wondered out loud whether they were in the permanent minority,” Frank Luntz, who organized the event, told FRONTLINE.

Among them were Senate power brokers Jim DeMint, Jon Kyl and Tom Coburn, and conservative congressmen Eric Cantor, Kevin McCarthy and Paul Ryan.

After three hours of strategizing, they decided they needed to fight Obama on everything. The new president had no idea what the Republicans were planning."

Seeing as I'm a 50% slave to the government now, I'm all out of compromise room.

Obama stated that he would not negotiate. Remember that ACA was passed without a single Republican vote in either house of congress. Many of the Democrats that voted for it were under duress of withdrawal of ALL Campaign support by the DNC. Others were literally bribed with promises of federal money for their pork projects. Others were threatened with being excluded from committees and leadership positions in congress if they didn't get in line and vote the right way. Now we can see the fallout. ACA cost the Democratic Party their majority in the house and they lost several senate seats. They will most likely lose the senate this year. That won't kill ACA though because it is unlikely that Republicans will get a veto proof congress.

You try to meet a liberal half way, and he screams racist (bigot, homophobe, etc.). Why bother?

It's not an attack, it's the truth. Look at how they handled the gays in boy scouts compromise. They decided to allow gay scouts, just not gay leaders. And how did liberals respond? By howling in outrage! So again I ask you, why bother?

Both parties don't talk and are whipped up in partisan garbage.

We need 90s politicians. Best bipartisanship since the Eisenhower days.

Maybe because you keep lying about the people with whom you claim to seek compromise.
