Drivers gone from 2013?

Jeff Burton will race part time this year. He'll work asa commentator for NBC sports next season.

Montoya is back in Indycar, driving for Team Penske.

Jeff Burton lost his ride with Ryan Newman taking over the 31 car this season. Burton will only be racing in a handful of events this year, before moving the booth as a commentator.

In the Nationwide Series, I noticed that Nelson Piquet Jr. was gone before the season started. He just seemed to vanish after last season, and didn't really show up until a couple of weeks ago with an announcement that he's competing in rally cars. With Scott Speed effectively gone and Juan Pablo Montoya racing Indy cars for Roger Penske, I think all of the former Formula One drivers are gone. A lot of NASCAR fans may think that this is a good thing, but I wish that my generation had seen drivers race (and win) in vastly different series the way they did when my parents were young. In the space of eleven years, Mario Andretti won the Daytona 500, the Indy 500, and became a Formula One champion. It makes me sad that we'll likely never see that again.
