I need some information about French Horns?
I have just started playing French Horn again after nearly 3 years, though i only played for 3 or 4 months before my family moved town, and i didn't take up music again at my new school so i hardly remember anything about it. Im 17 and iv played flute since i was 9. I have a few questions about the french horn, its a double but im not sure how to tell the difference between the sides, and i dont start lessons until next week so i cant ask the teacher (he travels to a couple of different schools). I have a flute which is in tune so what note do i play on flute to tune my french horn to, and to figure out which side is F and which side is Bb? i dont have a smartphone or i would just download a tuning app.

Get a french horn fingering chart, it will show you when to use each side by indicating a T or not. F is in the front the trigger or T activates the Bb in the back. But the music will always be in F and the horn is always thought of in F. The flute is in C and the horn is on F so
flute G is horn D
Flute Ab is horn Eb
Flute A is horn E
Flute Bb is horn F
Flute B or Cb is horn F#
Flute C is horn G
Flute Db is horn Ab
Flute D is horn A
Flute Eb is horn Bb
Flute E is horn B
Flute F is horn C
Flute Gb or F# is horn Db
And for all of them the enharmonics are also true.
