Has anyone heard about this Martial Arts seminar?
There is a seminar coming up. Who has heard about it. Who plans to attend? It could be pretty nice.
It on self defense with teachers from a variety of arts including mma. There is also a section for law enforcement.

I haven't about the seminar and doubt that I will be able to go. It sounds like a decent enough seminar.
The class sponsoring the seminar is a Kajukenbo class. "CQB Kajukenbo" There is no listing of that name in the Kajukenbo database. There is one listed in Branson. It is the Mid-American Mixed Martial Arts run by Sigung Don Wilhelm. I don't know any details on him, but he is one of the recognized Kaju instructors. Kajukenbo used to come in two varieties, hardcore and insane. Now the standards have lowered in some schools and insurance has curtailed some of the more rigorous training methods.
No where does it say that they will be teaching Kajukenbo. It is a seminar on various types of martial arts and it sounds like the people putting it on are respected in their fields of study. If I wasn't saving for a 5 day training with the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai in March I would consider attending since it is only 5 or 6 hours away from me.

Among Guro Richard Bustillo's accomplishments, he is a Green Belt in Kajukenbo under Prof Sid Ascusion. I have never met Guro Bustillo, but my original Kajukenbo instructor would invite Guro Dan Inosanto to train us on a regular basis because of the Escrima connection to Kajukenbo.
The instructor of CQB Kajukenbo now claims to be of Ascusion lineage. This is an internal designation within Kajukenbo practitioners to indicate what your movements would be like. I am also from Ascusion lineage.
When I saw the Youtube videos, not only did I not see any evidence of Ascusion lineage, I also saw no evidence of any movements resembling Kajukenbo. Yes, this is a harsh statement, but I have to take a stand. Karate Dave and I went through years of hard training just to be able to claim to be Kajukenbo practitioners. I cannot stand idly while something claims to be trained in a martial art that very few people survive training in.
I watched the young men in the Youtube videos. I saw no evidence that they can take any physical punishment. I am a small guy in my early 50's. I know that I can outlast them in a workout. I don't think those students can physically hurt me. I think they are going down after I punch and kick them. And they are not supposed to. They are supposed to be able to remain standing, just because they are Kajukenbo students. They are supposed to be tough, but unfortunately they are not.
Guro Richard Bustillo is for real. Unfortunately CQB Kajukenbo is not.

KaJuKenbo is an improvisational martial system that uses various techniques adopted from other systems. But unlike Krav Maga I have never heard of it before this, nor have I heard of any of the people named as being involved. Since I have not had any involvement with this system or organization I can not say one way or the other regarding the quality of the instructorship or the system itself.
Edit: I'm not saying I'm against learning this type of self-defense system. As a matter of fact it sounds like the type of system I have developed for myself through training in multiple martial systems over the years. But I would do a lot of research before I invested my money and time into something I'd never been involved in.

Sounds like fun, but I will be working a summer camp through a thing called Seeds Of Hope, which is a camp for children from foster homes, bad backgrounds, and the likes.
And I have work in general.
Besides that I would love to go.

Never hear of them. It looks like fun and may be worth it. The cost is reasonable. Even if you learn one thing it seems worth the cost.
I don't have the time or money to burn or I would concider it.

If you go to Youtube and type in "Fight Quest Kajukenbo" you will see a documentary about two MMA guys training and learning this art."
It seems quite a useful art.
