Refrigeration hand tools, test instrument and equipment?

Your text book will have names and illustrations

of all of the above. This should be your first recourse

since the items listed come in different versions and sizes.

(1) tubing cutter: normally a small hand tool used for

soft copper tubing, and rigid copper pipe.

(2) swaging tools: a hand tool resembling a punch which

enlarges the inner diameter of soft tubing to it's own

outer diameter +.003" to permit joining tubes of the same size.

(3)tubing bender: a mandrel used to bend soft tubing without

kinking. Can be a hand tool for small soft tubing sizes, or a shop

tool for larger rigid pipe sizes.

(4)Pinch off: a pliers like hand tool for preliminary sealing

of tubing.

(5) reversible ratchet: a hand tool

(6) gauge manifold: test instrument fitted with valves and pressure gauges used to transfer fluid.

(7) pocket thermometer: test instrument no longer used.

A digital thermometer with memory capacity is desirable for

superheat adjustment, cabinet temperature monitoring,

vapor pressure verification, and general purposes.

Infrared non contact also desirable.

(8) capillary tube cleaner: shop equipment capable of

generating 10,000 psi hydraulic pressure.

(9) charge cylinder/tanks: equipment used to transport, weigh and

measure refrigerant.

(10) fitting brushes: hand tools. helically wound wire brushes

sized to tubing diameter used for pre-braze cleaning.

(11) multimeter: test instrument used for measuring Volts,Ohms, and milliAmperes.

(12) Blow torch: hand tool not used for refrigeration.

A blow torch is a pressurized gasoline burning torch

used for riveting and lead plumbing which cannot generate

sufficient heat for brazing.

(13) Vacuum pump: equipment used for removing

non-condensible gases and moisture from refrigeration systems.

(14) hydrometer: a test instrument used to measure specific gravity

not normally used for refrigeration.

(15) pressure switch: none of the above. A part of a refrigeration system using

suction pressure to regulate compressor operation.

(16) oxy acetylene: welding and brazing equipment

for joining piping and tubing.
