Re: Reformatting XP Computer that blue screens on boot?

I have a older XP laptop that blue-screens while booting and restarts. The code it provides is as follows: 0x000000ed (0x859082d0, 0xc0000009a, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). I've pulled ram chips and tried single chips with same result. Also, I've tried changing bios boot-sequence numerous times using both a boot-able usb and windows 7 cd but it will not launch a new install either way. Additionally I've tried every boot with options (f8) with same results. Any ideas on diagnosis?

Update:

My computer has USB Boot option in Bios and I've rotated ram chips and tried them singularly with same results.

If you're able to access the bios that rules out that the memory is corrupted, so long as the computer doesn't reboot whilst you're inside. Change your boot sequence to USB>CD/DVD>HDD and Save & Exit.

Assuming you have your .iso or installation disc ready, make a bootable USB stick using another computer and Rufus USB Installer (http://rufus.akeo.ie/)

Once you finish creating a bootable USB, plug it into the damaged computer and reboot it.

If the computer it really old, the bios may not support or recognize the bootable USB drive and you should instead use a CD-R.

Do not use Windows 7, it's likely not compatible with the hardware - Depending on the processor type you may be able to run a Linux distro.
