How to legally transfer ownership of a firearm in Maine?

In Maine you can have a Concealed Handgun Permit if you are over 18 but you can not buy a handgun until you are 21 so how is someone 18-21 supposed to be able to legally own a handgun with out participating in a 'straw perches' or with out someone truly just giving them a handgun with out any payment in return?

Also if private individual wishes to purchase a firearm from another private individual is there any paper work that has to be done at a licenses gun shop? or is it legal to just exchange money for a firearm? is this situation just for simplicity both individuals are over 21 and of course legal to own firearms, not convicted felons etc.

I have tried searching for this type of info but can not fund anything satisfactory so any knowledge on this topic would be greatly appreciated as well as links to websites with this info etc.

Thank you all

If you are at least 18 years old you may buy a hand gun, but a licensed dealer may not sell one to anyone under 21. So how do people aged 18 to 20 obtain a hand gun? They may buy one through a private sale, or receive one as a gift or inheritance. The shady area is when someone buys a hand gun from a licensed dealer on behalf of someone who can't legally do it himself, such as an 18 to 20 year old. That is a straw purchase.

So, what does that mean to you? If grandpa dies and leaves you his M1911 from the war, that's fine. If you find a nice S&W .38 in the newspaper classifies that you like, you can buy it. Mom can buy you a little .380 for your planned concealed carry and just give it to you. But you can't give anyone a fistful of $100 bills and have them go buy one for you at a dealer in order to get around the dealer's restriction on selling it directly to you. Cool?
