Mayweather and Maidana Questions?

Still trying to find a way to watch the fight, but got excited with the reactions from the fans. Must ask:

1. Was it really close? Only one judge had a draw, but the others have Floyd a clear majority.

2. Was it Floyd:

a) losing a step

b) underestimating his opponent

c) wanting to give fans an entertaining fight?

3. How did Maodana do what a bigger fighter like Canelo could not?

Maidana rushed Floyd early in the fight and it seemed Mayweather was taking longer than usual to figure out his opponent. Add to that the cut Floyd suffered which probably delayed him taking over the fight because he was dealing with the blood for two rounds while trying to neutralize Chino's attack.

By the halfway point Many people had Marcos up but from the 7th round it seemed like Floyd was starting to take over. Here is where it got difficult to score. Chino was still taking the fight to Floyd but he was clearly showing signs of fatigue and Mayweather was starting to hit him with hard flush shots. Maidana was not connecting as much and Floyd was blocking more of the shots but still not taking as many.

I thought Floyd was up by two or three by the end of the fight, Maidana was clearly Fatigued late in the fight and wasn't as effective as he was at rushing him, although his jab was still quite good.

    2. I think Floyd did underestimate him a little and the added complication of dealing with the blood made it more exciting and a closer fight because Floyd had to deal with it for two rounds. I don't buy that crap about wanting to make the fight entertaining, it was all Maidana's relentless moving forward which forced mayweather to fight the way he did. He handled it well.

    3. I thought about Canelo as well for some reason, but he's too big at 154 while Maidana has only just started to get comfortable at Welter. I'd like to see Maidana establish himself further in the division. Maybe fight guys like Garcia or Mattysse next and build up a showdown with guys like Bradley, Marquez or Pacquiao. Floyd took longer to figure him out than he usually figures out his opponents but in the end he did. A rematch would only result in Maidana losing a more one sided fight, he should take what he can from this victory and try to build on it, make as much money as he can.

    It was very close yes.

I've said for some years Floyd's speed has declined (also spotted this with Pacquiao well before his losses to Marquez and Bradley).

The key to look for is lack of combinations. Like Tyson in his old age vs 80's Tyson. Mayweather (& Manny too) now throws mainly single punches. Once this starts, a fighter is waiting to be beaten in my view. Manny got caught ny Marquez, it just happens Floyd hasn't quite been exposed yet.

But last night, Maidana really made a lot of his weaknesses apparent.

The main thing Floyd struggles with is aggresive fighters. Maidana is not as good as Castillo was but Mayweather was young then. If a slightly better fighter with that style had fought Mayweather last night, he would have lost.

I still think Mayweather has aged better than Pacquiao. He recognised he was in a fight and dug deep. He still seems a better boxer in my view and has a far better defence.

All athletes lose speed and stamina with age. Floyd is now finding that out.

    1. Floyd won the match.

    2. It was none you mentioned, it was the first time Floyd fought a hungry fighter. Floyd has been fighting cans, and hype jobs, to say the least. Maidana isn't even a top 5 welterweight, but he was hungry, and made Floyd fight.

    3. Maidana came at Floyd. Canelo just stood their green, and stupid.

I had Mayweather winning by 2 rounds but it could have been scored a draw, many rounds were close. Late in the fight Maidana started rounds strong but Mayweather finished the rounds strong giving him the rounds in the eyes of most judges.

Maidana made Mayweather look bad. Mayweather tried to fight in the center of the ring but Maidana kept cutting the ring off and bull rushing Floyd. When they got in the ropes Maidana constantly landed body shots and threw awkward punches that landed all over Mayweathers body and head [even in the back of the head].

Maidana roughed Floyd up, once he almost even hit him with his knees! Maidana hit Floyd with lowblows and got warned but when Mayweather didn't get warned for elbowing, Maidana began doing it as well. It was a rough fight with Maidana being dirtier.

Floyd tried to keep the fight in the center of the ring and landed the crisper shots to the head but Maidana blocked many of them and his constant attack kept Floyd in a shell.

    Mayweather threw few punches.

Punch stat totals had Mayweather landing only about 9 more punches on Maidana than he absorbed in the entire fight, but Maidana clearly landed the most powershots however headshots catch the eye more so the judges gave most rounds to Mayweather.

I was not impressed considering Maidana got his *** kicked only 2 years ago by sub=par light welterweights.

He's 37, turning 38 soon. Of course he has slowed down, he's human. It was a close fight but there's no doubt that Mayweather won the fight.

Wait until it is uploaded on youtube or on showtime on t.v.

    1. Yeah. However, if you're a pro floyd fan, you might see it differently

    2. His speed has declined and his skills are not enough to save him anymore which is why he gets hit a lot more now. He uses the fan excuse as a way to make himself look good, but in reality, father time has almost fully caught up to him.

    3. Maidana used his aggression and power to punish floyd and did not respect him. He kept him along the ropes, made him miss a lot in the center of the ring, and beat the hell out of his body as well as give him a black eye. He also made floyd miss a lot and punished floyd when floyd clinched him.

Floyd just wanted to entertain fans. He could have gotten on his bicycle and boxed like he used to, but chose not to. IMO, Floyd landed the more effective punches. I saw Maidana buckle several times and didn't see Maidana's punches move Floyd at all. Most Floyd haters will tell you otherwise.
