Plaster, Joint Compound or Spackle - Which is Right for When?

since they are all priced around the same amount I wondered if one is better to use for rooms that may experience more moisture than other places inside a home? If plaster is coming off the walls in chunks will spackle or joint compound will do the same job and not suffer any problems?

I don't want to 2nd guess and go for something cheap just to pay later.

Thanks for anyone's help.

Plaster is used to cover an entire wall.

Joint compound is used to cover the joints between sections of wall board.

Spackle is used to patch holes in wallboard.

If you have moisture issues, the answer is to control the moisture. NO repair will hold until the underlying moisture issue is resolved.
