I live in Canada. Can I contribute to a American non-profit organization?
REPOSTING! I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I've self-published my first book, "Broken Family Portrait" last fall and launched it at McNally-Robinson just this January. I also have a lot of other unpublished novels and several stories for children and young adults. I have also been working as an administrative assistant at the Helping Hands Resource Centre for Immigrants, where we work with newcomers to Canada on settlement and integration through educational programs, counselling, etc. It was here that I was inspired to use my writing and storytelling skills for fundraising purposes for good causes.
I have been thinking about approaching the Boomer Esiason Foundation for Cystic Fibrosis Research with this idea. I have been a great admirer of Esiason's for his work off the football field and in the media, and I admire the bonds he's been able to keep with his family. This is something I've been thinking about for more than a decade, and my work at Helping hands has inspired me to go for it. I plan to send them a message telling about myself and my nonprofit organizational work, along with my novel (maybe even send a copy to them,) and ask if I can get on board with them if they find me worthy as a writer. I used to tune into to Esiason's column when he wrote for the NFL website, and he has penned two books in the late 90's.
I'm just wondering if this will be legal. I know you can't work for an American company if you're not an American citizen. I have other organizations in mind to pitch novel projects to, based on the novel itself, specifically in world peace and amnesty issues. But this is one opportunity I just can't let go. I want to see my books be part of the English curriculum, use my talents to make the world a better place, and I want to establish a business relationship with someone famous whom I admire.

Of course. Its your money you are free to donate it to any charity, or give it to the homeless, or whatever. Doesnt matter the organization or country. Unless of course you are planning to donate to terrorists which would result in the Canadian FBI arresting you.
