  • What do you think of these cartoon hero character names?

I'm creating a book saga a la Hunger Games and Mortal Instruments (better than Twilight, I promise you... LOL) featuring cartoon/comic book superheroes, all brothers, and here are their names along with their weapons and abilities:

Leander - is the leader of the group, most disciplined, uses any martial arts weapon at his disposal

Highclear - can make himself invisible to enemies, can climb even the highest of heights, can jump from the same heights and still land on his feet

Nightvisor - has incredible night vision, can see in the dark. Usually wears special glasses that can enhance his vision, serve as a detector, and has x-ray vision, and can be used as a weapons (shoots lasers and anything else he wants from the lenses.)

Surfside - the "surfer dude" of the group. Uses his surfboard as a weapon against enemies, can command any water around him.

Arrowman - is skilled at archery as well as martial arts, uses a bow and with sharp arrows as a weapons as well as martial arts weapons.

Do these sound like good, decent names to you? I'm particularly asking about the name Highclear. If you can think of a better name for this hero based upon his abilities, please post in the answers. Thanks.

  • I live in Canada. Can I contribute to a American non-profit organization?

REPOSTING! I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I've self-published my first book, "Broken Family Portrait" last fall and launched it at McNally-Robinson just this January. I also have a lot of other unpublished novels and several stories for children and young adults. I have also been working as an administrative assistant at the Helping Hands Resource Centre for Immigrants, where we work with newcomers to Canada on settlement and integration through educational programs, counselling, etc. It was here that I was inspired to use my writing and storytelling skills for fundraising purposes for good causes.

I have been thinking about approaching the Boomer Esiason Foundation for Cystic Fibrosis Research with this idea. I have been a great admirer of Esiason's for his work off the football field and in the media, and I admire the bonds he's been able to keep with his family. This is something I've been thinking about for more than a decade, and my work at Helping hands has inspired me to go for it. I plan to send them a message telling about myself and my nonprofit organizational work, along with my novel (maybe even send a copy to them,) and ask if I can get on board with them if they find me worthy as a writer. I used to tune into to Esiason's column when he wrote for the NFL website, and he has penned two books in the late 90's.

  • What would happen if you were charged with aiding and abetting in a homicide that took place outside your home state?

In a novel I'm writing, I have a homicide subplot that took place in the city of Los Angeles, and the character lives in the state of South Carolina (this happened after a televised talk show.) It wasn't until she got back to South Carolina that was charged with aiding and abetting the murder in L.A. (She did not take part in murdering the victims, which were her sister and nephew.) Fast forward a year later and the trial is set for Los Angeles, where the murderers are in prison.

If the South Carolina woman has a travel ban and cannot leave her home state, how would she get to Los Angeles for the trial? Would she have to have a written statement mailed to the courts? At this point, I was thinking that she would fly in escorted by the authorities, and she's forbidden to have any contact with the media before the trial begins? Is this correct? What would the law dictate in this case?

  • Going to the movies tomorrow, what should I see?

I am leaning towards RoboCop or About Last Night. I will be checking back this question either later tonight or early tomorrow morning, and will choose the one that gets the most votes. The movie I don't choose I will save for Cinema City Northgate (on McPhillips, I live in Winnipeg, MB) in April or may, when it comes to that theatre. Thanks, everyone.

  • I have a question about transfers within the police department?

Is it possible for a member of law enforcement to be transferred from a city in one state or Canadian province, to a city in another state or Canadian province? If so, what is the procedure to make this happen. In my current in-progress novel, my protagonist is living with his sister and brother-in-law, the BIL being a member of the Winnipeg Police Service (Winnipeg, Manitoba), and they later live in Vancouver, British Columbia. Would this be realistic, and if so, how can this be set up realistically?

  • Parents: Do you think high school is too young for teens to read Romeo & Juliet?

In many high schools, students tend to read "Romeo and Juliet" for English in Grades 10 or 11 (15 or 16 years old.) However, for many years now, parents of students in this age range (especially girls), and even society believes that these ages are too young for them to actually fall in love and have serious relationships - or even entertain such a notion. I have heard of parents who have forbidden their daughters to have boyfriends while in high school.

However still, many people tend to look at Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet as role models for loving couples. I'm sure that most people who read this classic play tend to get the idea that love is a beautiful thing worth fighting for, that it's a worthy thing to have, and that it will enrich and complete their lives. This is where they get inspiration to find a boyfriend/girlfriend, pair up and start dating - much to their mother's or father's disapproval. And when they are told they cannot date, for fear that the girl will get pregnant, end up heartbroken or promiscuous, that the girl will fall for someone with a terrible reputation, or other reasons too numerous to mention here.

Seeing this, do you believe that "Romeo and Juliet" should be removed from the high school English curriculum, and reserved for college and university English courses (when your children are probably old enough to handle the "true love" experience)? Would you not allow your teen daughter or son to read this play for school, for fear that s/he will get certain ideas about love from it? Or are you worried about the fact that the teen lovers commit suicide? What other reasons can you come up with to have this play removed from high schools? And what Shakespearian play would you replace this one with? I am eager to see what you think. Thank you.

  • Should Justin Bieber's video for "As Long As You Love Me" be made into a movie?

I may not care for JB's music, but this particular is, in my opinion, one of the best he ever has. It's so dramatic, and though you may not agree with me here, Justin has shown that he has at least decent acting skills, especially in his intimate scenes with his girlfriend, and his scenes with Michael Madsen.

If this were to be a movie, should Madsen resurrect (if that's the correct term) as the overprotective father. And who would you cast in the role of the girlfriend?

  • What do you think Sandy will be replaced with for 2018?

Given what is going on with Hurricane sandy, it's probably a given that it will be retired come next spring, and never be used again for another hurricane season. So what name do you think the Hurricane Centre will replace it with for the 2018 season?

  • What will you do IF Obama gets a second term?

I'm not saying that it's possible or not, but IF (and that's a big "IF") Obama gets elected for a second term, how will you react and what will be your plan. And please don't answer with "Obama's going to lose, Romney will get in" or "Obama sucks, he won't get another term. I'm just curious to know what you will do, since mostly everyone's complaining about how he made the economy worse, and broke all his promises, and insisting that Romney will bring change.

  • How are scenes on an airplane filmed?

It's for a novel I'm currently writing. I'm guessing that some scenes are filmed in a studio with a green screen attached, and the interior of an airplane filmed, but in my piece, the actor character is on an actual flight to Toronto (the filming location for NYC scenes) to Miami, where the majority of the movie is set.) If it would be realistic to shoot on an actual aircraft, how would it be set up? Would be safe to film while the "fasten seatbelt" sign is on, or would they have to wait until it shuts off. The acting scenes will be in screenplay format, but I want to see if this would be realistic in this case. Thanks.

  • Do you or your husband insist on skipping church during the football season?

To all you churchgoers out there, with yet another NFL season coming up, are you now in worry or dread because the football fan in your family will insist on staying home from Sunday morning church services, just to watch the pre-game show, and the game on TV? Is s/he planning on skipping some church services in order to get to the home games that start at noon, or evening services for the evening home games? How does this makes you feel, and what are you planning to do to resolve this?

Also, what do you think of other people who agree to go to church every Sunday, then add, "except during the football season"? Do you think their priorities are out of order, and they need to have a "come to Jesus" chat?

I'm not a regular churchgoer, but as a casual football fan, I'm curious to see what you all think?

BQ#1: If you could have professional footbal on a different day of the week, which day would you choose? Or do you think it should be eliminated altogether?

BQ#2: Does your football fan prefer The NFL Today or Fox NFL Sunday?

  • Question about moving your car from one city to another (when travelling by plane)?

Imagine that you are moving from one part of the country to the other, and you are travelling to your new city by plane. You have a car (just a regular car, nothing big like a truck or an RV) that’s still in good working condition, but you don’t wish to leave it behind or sell it, or get a new one when you’re settled into your new city. What do you do? Would it be feasible to let the airport staff know about your car that you left in the parking lot, and request that they get it there? If so, would it be possible to put the car on a cargo plane, or would they have to connect with a vehicle hauling service?

  • Which country star would you like to see judging American Idol?

With the successes of AI's Carrie Underwood and Scotty McCreary in the country western genre, I've been thinking it's high time that we saw a country music star join the judges' panel and judging the talent, alongside Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez. The question is, which country star should get the honour as the fourth AI judge?

  • Question for brides who are getting married on St. Patrick's Day?

To those brides who are getting married on March 17, 2012, (which is a wedding Saturday this year) are you planning to dye your wedding gowns GREEN for the occasion. I think that would look totally neat. ;)

  • When do you think American Idol will do a tribute to Whitney Houston?

Given the recent passing of Whitney Houston, I've been thinking it would be appropriate to hold a special night where contestants sing songs that have been hits by her. I think that would be appropriate. However, since they are still doing Hollywood auditions, top 12 girls and top 12 guys and all that, I think they will hold this off until the first week of the Top 12/13. Any thoughts?

  • Writers - have you ever thought about showcasing your writing on America's Got Talent?

I'm only asking this because back in late July, early August of last year, I learned that Canada's Got Talent (same concept) was coming to my hometown of Winnipeg in September for auditions. I'd thought of going down and giving a poetry reading or short-story reading, and perhaps get myself noticed. Maybe even introduce a new category. I figured maybe if the right people watched regularly, it would help get my foot in the door. But then I talked myself out of it, changed my mind, because it would be open to performing arts only (singing, dancing, comedy, etc) and they would not be willing to introduce a category for writers.

Do you think this would be a good idea? Have you writers ever thought of this? And do you think I should try to apply this coming year?

  • When did smoking during pregnancy first become taboo?

I've tried Googling it, as you may suggest to me, and all that came up was the effects of smoking during pregnancy, none of the history behind it. I know this was taboo in the 1970's, but when? Basically, when was the first baby diagnosed with health problems, and physical and mental disabilities due to the mother smoking while pregnant born.

I'm just think of the protagonist of my last completed novel, whose mother smoked heavily while pregnant with him and his three older sisters. The sisters were all born in the 1960's, all healthy and normal, while the protagonist was born in June of 1970 with a serious form of cerebral palsy. I just want to know if this family situation would be realistic. Thanks.

  • Would you be interested in a show called "Poker Talk"?

On many sports channels and "gaming" channels, you see a lot of hour-long and such shows where professional poker players play poker for big money. But, what if these same poker players played the game while discussing "hot topics," latest stories in the news, celebrity scandals, and headlining stories of personal interest. Sometime in the middle of the game, or if you're starting a second game, they can even have a hot celebrity come on to play a few rounds all the while talking about his latest movie, album, concert tour, etc.

Of course, we'd also have a host to moderate both the poker games and the conversations.

I think this would be a good show to put on networks where televised poker games are featured, to help escape from the boring riff-raff. Most of the time, the players don't feel like talking about much of anything. Is this something you would be interested in?

  • What do you think of the Katy Perry/Russell Brand divorce?

I just found this out, and I must say, I'm a little shocked and way disappointed by this. I thought this was one of the more legitimate couples, and |I honestly thought they would stay together for some time, maybe even have some children together. Katy Perry is one celebrity that I respect, unlike Kim KarTrashian, and I really thought she deserved some very happy years with Russell Brand.

What do the Katy Perry fans think? Are you suprised, or did you see this coming. And do you think she could have done better than Russell?
